The Yealands Story

Established in 2008, Yealands was always destined to be a story of thinking differently. In 2002, when our founder Peter Yealands began developing land in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough, at the north-eastern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, many thought viticulture would be impossible given it was home to some of the toughest conditions in the region including steep slopes, strong winds, cool nights and low rainfall. Located on the cliff's edge overlooking the Cook Strait, Seaview Vineyard on Yealands Estate is now one of the most sustainable and striking vineyards in the world, producing award-winning wines that are enjoyed by millions across the globe.

Yealands History

2002

Peter Yealands acquires farm land on the Seaview peninsula and commences developing a vineyard.

2002

Eight farms are amalgamated into one 1,113 hectare parcel.

2008

Builds a 10,000 tonne winery at Seaview. Winery opens on 08.08.08.

2008
2010

Establishes a New Zealand sales team and starts distribution into Asia.

2011

Yealands Estate merges with Ager Sectus Wine Estates. Introduces Crossroads Wines and The Crossings brands and forms Yealands Wine Group.

2012

Producers of the World's Best Sauvignon Blanc

2013

Expands stainless steel storage at Seaview to 20,000 tonnes.

2013

Marlborough Earthquake
August 2013: Earthquake causes some damage to the Seaview winery tanks. Full reinstatement is completed and all orders processed on time.

2014

New Zealand Wine Producer of the Year

2014

Producers of New Zealand's Best Red Wine

2015

Marlborough Lines acquires an 80% shareholding in Yealands Wine Group that will provide long-term economic and social benefits to the Marlborough region.

2016

Yealands is assessed by DQS The Audit Company (Germany) and becomes first wine company globally to be issued with the Green Company GC-Mark certification.
